Sample Schedule
Academics are at play each and every day at Reade Street Prep! In each block of the day, described below, children are engaged, stimulated, and smiling. The routine and predictability of each day is designed to provide our students with safety and security. We know that children do best when they know what to expect, so by providing this structure, our students are set up for success!
Centers
To begin their day, all students at Reade Street Prep engage in centers. There are opportunities for fine motor practice, math and literacy games, and collaborative activities at the rug. This carefully curated time of day is important for children to practice different skills, review new content, learn to work independently and collaboratively, make choices, and clean up materials once they have completed an activity. For teachers, they use this time to check in and connect with their students as well as take notes and collect information on individual progress.
Daily Meeting
Daily meeting is a routine and predictable gathering where students come together as a classroom community. During this time, the class sings songs, takes attendance, works with the calendar, checks the weather, receives class job assignments, and reviews the schedule for the day. Daily meeting time builds community, deepens student connections to each other and school, and provides opportunities to practice core academics including math and literacy as well as public speaking.
Lesson & Reinforcement Activity
RSP’s curriculum is guided by a monthly theme and artist. Our teachers prepare daily lessons around this content area that are designed to peak our students’ natural curiosity. Simultaneously, the lessons weave a variety of developmental benchmarks from areas such as math, literacy, fine motor skills, science, and arts. Each lesson includes an activity that allows students to engage with the material in meaningful and memorable ways!
Snack
Snack period is a short break for students to have a quick energy boost and the chance to socialize with classmates. Families send their child with a nut-free snack to enjoy.
Gym
Each half day class has 30 minutes of gym time to get their wiggles out and develop gross motor skills!
Library
Library time is designed to allow children to engage with books. Whether enjoying a read aloud by a teacher, learning to book browse, or diving deeper into pre-reading skills, library is a time for students to develop a love of reading.
STEM
In addition to daily thematic lessons, each week we provide specialized STEM lessons. Through engaging and interactive experiments, our students ask questions, make predictions, look for answers, and find solutions. Furthermore, 3-5 times a year a special STEM guest visits and provides exciting perspective in the world of science.
Music
Weekly music lessons led by a music specialist enhance our children’s appreciation and understanding of the music that is infused throughout the day! Children move, sing, and make music together during weekly creative music classes!
Goodbye Meeting
At the end of each class, students gather once more as a whole group to say goodbye to their classroom community.
